"Break Out"

We were watching VH1's One Hit Wonders and this song came on by "Swing Out Sister". Yes that's where the title came from. She was a model who now has a singing career in Japan, with many many albums.

"Beam Us Down"

I painted this in 1987, thinking about the images on our vessels compared to the ancient Greeks; Science fiction & myths.

"Vessel of Honor"

Transparent planes of primary colors overlap creating a triangle. The female form is like a vase. This old painting, 1988, inspires me to paint a new still life with a Mrs. Buttersworth syrup bottle.

"He Met Her In A Dream"

There is a song by Bjork with the lyric: "I miss you, but I haven't met you yet."

"Space Cadet"

This painting was photographed from the side, at an oblique angle. (that's electric conduit on the wall). The blue checked strip on the right is painted on the side. I loved playing with the rotation of a circle/elipse. As the viewer walks by, the elipse rotates and becomes foreshortened.

"Elephant Lady"

This eliptical painting interested Holly and Horace Solomon when they visited my studio in 1980. I thought I had it made, Holly and Horace embraced and she said we'll send the truck over." and, "The trunk is pointing down: That's bad luck." They were divorced not long after.  Below is a Warhol photo of Holly in her younger years looking very glamourous.

"Why I Paint Flowers"

Because the symetry of flowers is a direct expression of the golden mean, 1.618 is a unit of division and multiplication throughout natural creation. Who said, "I don't paint nature, I am nature"? Some artists naturally create compositions close to the golden mean / section. One can easily do it precisely with a calculator and a metric ruler. Art can have a healing quality for the viewer.

"Chrysler and the U.N."

The Chrysler building is a mythic symbol of all that the U.S.A. has to offer: stainless steel iconic qualities. It was purchased in 2008 by an investment group from the U.A.E. in Abu Dhabi. Let us stop driving gas hogs, and make public transportation the rule. The U.N. building is in the foreground opposite a rust colored building. I loved painting the silvery sky and wish I was riding in that little yellow cab, right now.

"Port"

This a painting of the NYC waterfront I painted in 1989, the year I left the city. I made photographs of the skyline from the Circle Line boat trip.
In the center and at a distance, is the Woolworth building, one of my favorites. To the right of it is a large green glass building. And to the right of that are the Twin Towers. The perspective is not 3 point. The buildings do not taper or have a vanishing point as they reach for the sky.

"Still Life"

Could this be the first Greek vase I painted?

If one believes in past lives, no. It is fun to take photos in museums, and I went hog wild with the camera in the Met's Greek vase room. The push and pull of the cube makes this anything but still.

"Herculese, Artist, & Model"

I painted this in 1986, showing a jar of that body building-high protein powder, my shadow, and a vase with Herculese on it. Reminds me of the friend who said that in a past life I was a model who wanted to be an artist.
